Before You Book Permanent Makeup, Read This: 26-Year Veteran Bea Robinson Exposes What Consumers Are Not Being Told

by Smart Touch Skin SolutionsOctober 4, 2026in Health & Beauty5 min read

After 26 years watching the permanent makeup industry evolve, Bea Robinson of Smart Touch Skin Solutions in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is speaking directly to women considering permanent makeup—and increasingly to women who already had it and are now living with the consequences. Brows that became too dark. Colors that shifted grey, blue or orange. Pigments selected without considering the client’s skin. Shapes that never belonged on the face in the first place. After personally seeing more than 300 healed and older microblading results over the years, Robinson’s message is direct: permanent makeup is called permanent for a reason, and consumers deserve to understand what they are trusting before someone puts a needle to their face.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — October 5, 2026 — Permanent makeup is usually judged by how it looks when it is fresh. Bea Robinson believes that is only the beginning of the story.

After 26 years in the permanent makeup industry, Robinson has spent years seeing what happens after the photographs are taken, the initial healing is over, and the procedure becomes part of someone’s face. She has personally examined more than 300 healed and older microblading results over the years. What she has seen has fundamentally changed the way she approaches permanent makeup.

Brows that were once crisp can become blurred. Colors can shift grey, blue or orange. Pigments can behave differently depending on the client’s skin tone and undertone. Shapes can remain technically intact while becoming increasingly disconnected from the client’s natural facial structure. And when a client eventually needs corrective work, the artist is no longer working on untouched skin.

“The problem is that consumers are being shown the finished photograph, but nobody is showing them what that same procedure may look like years later,” Robinson said. “That’s the conversation I want to have.”

Robinson says permanent makeup should never be approached as a one-size-fits-all beauty treatment. Two clients can receive what appears to be the same procedure and have completely different outcomes. Color matters. Skin matters. Facial structure matters. Technique matters. Previous procedures matter. And the artist’s judgment matters.

The color that looks right today may not be the color you live with tomorrow

A pigment can look beautiful immediately after a procedure and behave very differently as it heals and fades. Robinson developed her proprietary Tru2Color™ Method because she repeatedly saw color become a problem long after the original appointment.

The method considers the client’s complexion, undertone, ethnicity, existing pigment, implantation technique and anticipated fading behavior rather than choosing a color simply because it looks attractive on the day of the procedure.

“Choosing a pigment for how it looks on the day of the appointment is one of the mistakes that can cost a client the most later,” Robinson said. “You have to think about where that color is going, not just where it is today.”

A beautiful brow can still be the wrong brow

Robinson also believes consumers need to understand that facial anatomy matters. Every face has its own proportions, asymmetries, bone structure and natural brow position. A shape copied from a template, a trend or a Pinterest photograph may look beautiful on someone else and still be completely wrong for the person receiving it.

“A brow is not a sticker you put on a face,” Robinson said. “The face has to come first.”

Why Robinson stopped using a blade

Seven years ago, Robinson stopped offering manual microblading. She did so after years of seeing what happened to older microblading on real clients.

“After seeing hundreds of healed and older microblading results, I could no longer ignore what I was seeing in the skin,” Robinson said. “Those cuts heal, but they don’t simply disappear. Years later, when I am working on previously bladed brows, I am no longer working on untouched skin.”

Robinson transitioned to Digital Microblading, a machine-based technique that creates fine hair-stroke effects without the incisions associated with manual blading.

“If I can create natural hair strokes without a blade, why would I keep cutting the skin?” Robinson said.

Experience changes what an artist sees

Robinson says one of the biggest differences between an experienced artist and someone who is relatively new to the industry is what happens after the appointment.

“Education teaches technique. Experience teaches judgment,” Robinson said. “After 26 years, I don’t just look at the brow in front of me. I think about the skin, the pigment, the client’s history and what that work may look like years from now.”

That experience has also made corrective work an important part of Robinson’s practice. Some clients arrive with excessive saturation. Others have unwanted color shifts, shapes that do not suit their features, or previous work that limits what can safely be done next.

“These women didn’t come to me because they wanted another beauty treatment,” Robinson said. “They came because something permanent had gone wrong.”

With 26 years of experience, 18 professional awards across the United States and Europe, and 445 five-star Google reviews, Robinson is challenging consumers to ask a different question before booking permanent makeup.

Not simply:

“How will this look when it’s finished?”

But:

“What will this look like years from now?”

“Permanent is a serious word,” Robinson said. “It deserves more consideration than choosing the cheapest, fastest or most convenient artist.”
